As of 2013, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau is 2,078. Both the town and the peninsula are named for Capt. Henry Edwin Sewall (August 22, 1848 - August 1, 1925).

The per capita income for the town was $55,121. About 4.6% of families and 4.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.5% of those under age 18 and 3.8% of those age 65 or over.
